Biography
Samantha “Sam” Slimp Shaw was born and
raised in Homewood, Alabama, where she attended Homewood High
School. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William M. “Bill” Slimp.
Sam
received her first degree from Auburn University in 1979, earning a
B.S. degree in Family and Child Development. While at Auburn, Sam
met Greg Shaw of Birmingham. Sam and Greg were married in 1980
while he attended law school at Cumberland School of Law. In 1993,
Sam received a second degree in Business Administration, with a
major in accounting, from Auburn University in Montgomery.
Sam
and Greg have two sons. Gregory is a Second Lieutenant in the
United States Army. He graduated from the United States Military
Academy at West Point in May of 2007. Christopher is now a senior
studying mechanical engineering at Georgia Tech. |

Sam and Greg have lived in
Montgomery for over 23 years, where they are members of Frazer
Memorial United Methodist Church. Greg Shaw was elected as a Judge
to the Court of Criminal Appeals in 2000 and re-elected in 2006.
Judge Shaw also serves as the Chief Judge of the Judiciary.
Sam
is very active in Operation Support Our Troops, an organization
founded by West Point parents to help improve the morale and welfare
of members of the armed forces of the United States deployed in
harm’s way. Sam has been very involved in sending care packages-a
touch, a taste and a smell of home, to our troops in their deployed
locations.
Sam has spent most of her professional life as
an accountant. She began her accounting career at Shaw Oil Company
in
Birmingham,
while Greg attended law school. She also served as the accounting
manager for La-Z-Boy Furniture Gallery and in accounts payable at
Alabama Steel Supply. Sam served as the campaign manager for Greg
in his 2000 and 2006 campaigns and she was the Deputy Finance
Director for Senator Jeff Sessions’ 2002 campaign. Sam is the
immediate past chairman of the Montgomery County Republican
Executive Committee. She is a member of the Capital City Republican
Women, the Alabama Federation of Republican Women and the Camellia
Club.
